The Glock 36 is a pistol in the .45 Auto line produced by Glock Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung, more commonly known as Glock. Read on to find an overview of the Glock 36, a slimline subcompact .45 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol, sometimes called Auto).
Glock 36, a Member of the Glock Pistols Collection
The Glock 36 can be seen fitting into the Glock pistol line in two ways. On the one hand, it is one of the three .45 Auto pistols, a group that also includes the standard-sized Glock 21, and the subcompact Glock 30. There is no compact model made for this caliber by Glock. Glock makes other pistols for automatic ammunition, including its lines for 10 mm Auto and .380 Auto.
On the other hand, the Glock 36 is a member of Glock’s collection of subcompacts, but unlike the others; the Glock 26, Glock 27, Glock 28, Glock 29, Glock 33, and Glcok 39, the Glock 36 is the only slimline subcompact that Glock offers. For this reason, it stands in stark contrast to the regular subcompact, which is the only pistol the Glock manufactures for every caliber of ammunition it supports. In particular, the Glock 36 is the subcompact slimline version of the Glock 21, which has no compact version.
Focus on the Glock 36
Features that characterize all of Glock’s pistols apply, of course, to the Glock 36. It is a “safe action” pistol, having three safeties that disengage as the trigger is pulled and automatically reactivate upon release of the trigger, which is the single operative element in the gun. Other features worth noting are Tenifer, Glock’s proprietary surface protector, which add hardness, prevents corrosion, and offers an anti-reflective finish. The pistols are also made corrosion resistant by using polymer instead of steel, and as an added benefit, they are 86% lighter than they would be if made of steel.
The Glock 36 is the same length as the Glock 30: 6.77 in (172 mm) long, which is about 3/4 in shorter than the Glock 21. It also has the same height as the Glock 30, 4.76 in (121mm), which is slightly over 3/4 in shorter than the Glock 21. The barrel height of 1.26 in (32 mm) is identical to both the Glock 21 and Glock 30, as is the barrel length, at 3.78 in (96 mm). However, the width of the Glock 36, 1.13 in (28.5 mm), is .14 in (4 mm) less than the Glock 21 and 30, and the line of sight at 6.18 in (157 mm) is actually longer than that of the Glock 30 ( 5.95 in/145 mm), though shorter than the Glock 21 (6.77 in/172 mm).
The weight of the Glock 36 is 20.11 oz (570 g) by itself (just over 6 oz less than the Glock 21) and 26.99 oz (765 g) loaded, so nearly 11.25 oz less than the Glock 21. This is partly due to fewer cartridges in the magazine: The Glock 36 takes a standard 6-cartridge magazine, compared to 13 for the Glock 21. Like other Glock pistols, the trigger pull is 5.5 lbs (2.5 kg), the twist length is 15.75 in (400 mm), and right-hand, octagonal barrel rifling is used.
The price of the Glock 36 is about $500.00 to $575.00 depending on the Glock accessories you choose with it.
